Subject Matter // John Grey

something to write about, something not perfectly right, about the cat maybe,
or the woman behind glass, strangers abandoned to their own choreography,
or was that cartography? no, I don’t want to do the snake harm
nor do I wish to put my hand on the stove or spy on my own grief or
stamp my feet and clap my hands, just a place to stand and observe and
watch, not have to pull the trigger, maybe something I always wanted for her
but could only afford the pen on paper

John Grey is an Australian born poet. Recently published in Slant, Southern California
Review and Natural Bridge with work upcoming in the Kerf, Leading Edge and Soundings East.
